Sunny Afternoon

Prince Edward Island
Continuing our tour of PEI next up was the lighthouses in the north-east region. Given the slightly longer distances driving there from our base in Charlottetown we curtailed the amount of smaller lighthouse diversions and headed for the big hitters. You could say quality over quantity, but they've all got their own charm.

Heading north out of Charlottetown is a much easier drive than going west to the Confederation Bridge, and we were soon the only car on the road. First up on the north coast was the fabulously named Shipwreck Point Lighthouse, complete with it's own cafe.

East Point Lighthouse, as it's name suggests adorns the easternmost point of PEI. And it's a rather splendid lighthouse. We felt at the edge of the world eating our packed lunch overlooking the Atlantic on a blustery but sunny Autumn afternoon.
There was a cafe and craft shop, and the lamp room is open to visitors and offers spectacular ocean views.

Souris Historical Lighthouse sits on a cliff on Knight Point overlooking the town and harbour of Souris, a small industrial port. Again it's a lovely lighthouse complete with gift shop and the lighthouse and lantern room are open to the public.

As so that was the north-east of PEI covered in just over half a day.
Back in Charlottetown we celebrated bagging our 50th lighthouse of the trip so far with a well earned beer. That was a rough guess from my journal at this point, the final tally of the Canada trip was to be 74! Check out the statistics here.
That evening we ate dinner at the Water Prince Corner Shop which is a Charlottetown and PEI institution. The fish doesn't come much fresher than this! Definitely try the fabulous chowder.
Make sure you book, we popped in in the morning to reserve a table and saw the catch of the day arriving and once again experienced that fantastic Charlottetown hospitality.
