Numbers

The seed for our first trip to Canada was planted 6 years ago. The planning eventually boiled down to the following, and we were very fortunate that it all worked perfectly!
So how many lighthouses did we see?......here are the numbers....

Transport
4 flights.
8 boat trips.
2 national train journeys.
3 taxis.
1 Metro system.
1 x 18 mile bicycle ride.
2 Megabus journeys.
2,313 miles in the rental car.

CN Tower from the waterfront, Toronto

Accommodation
3 Air bnb apartments.
4 Hotels.
1 Motel.
1 Historic Inn.
1 stay in the Keeper's Lodge at a haunted lighthouse.

Fairmont le Château Frontenac, Quebec City

Various
342 songs on the Canada road trip play list (it wasn't enough).
1 full lobster eaten.
1 lap of an F1 track, on bicycles.
1 motor bike rally. (Passed through by accident)
3,779 photographs.
Too many portions of Poutine eaten - Can't understand why this dish of fries, cheese curds and gravy isn't huge in the UK?

The Biosphere, Montreal

Lighthouses
We decided that a lighthouse is deemed 'bagged' when the following criteria is met.
  • It is accessible by car or foot and best endeavours have been made to get to it.
  • If not accessible e.g. it is on a private property such as a pier or on an island, but it is visible to facilitate the below taking place.
  • A photograph is taken with the lighthouse and the bagger displaying verso police.
Based on this criteria, during our three week Canada trip we managed to bag
74 lighthouses
All shapes, sizes, conditions and locations - A reasonable tally that we were very happy with.

Medway Head Lighthouse, Nova Scotia
